Many Americans every year go under the knife to fix their imperfections on their bodies. Whether it’d be a face lift, tummy tuck, or breast implants doctors nationwide are changing people to fit their version of an idealistic “perfect body”. At what point does fixing a few imperfections become an obsession to cover hidden insecurities?
During the past weekend, MTV aired seasons 1-5 of The Hills. One of MTV’s most talked about shows, The Hills, revolves around a group of young girls in their twenties living life in California while camera’s roll every step of the way. In the last five seasons, the character that stood out the most, in a negative way, was Heidi Montag. Heidi, once a good girl from Colorado, became a wannabe celebrity once she got sucked into the limelight and craved the attention from the press. Heidi’s latest most talked about predicament was her extensive plastic surgeries. When questioned about her “new look” Montag responded “We all want to feel attractive. So who is anyone to judge me?”
When I saw the pictures of Heidi post surgery I was shocked an appalled. Not only did she get her breasts enlarged to an E, but she also had nine other plastic surgeries! Instead of looking like the “pop princess” Montag idled to be she looked ridiculous. I think it’s really sad that Heidi is so insecure that she feels she the need to look like a completely different person to be satisfied with herself. The only way she can truly fix her insecurities is by fixing her issues internally not remodeling herself externally. Hopefully Heidi and other people who are insecure will learn that giving themselves the “perfect body” doesn’t solve their issues in life.
Wow this is insane! I was watching a show about plastic surgery obsessions and it was shocking! Many of the people that went under the knife didnt even need too! Many of the woman I saw on the show were beautiful just the way they are and spend millions of dollars for a completely different look. Not only that, but plastic surgery, like any surgery has its flaws, and sometimes they dont go as planned. Women have died and suffered from these surgeries, and in some cases, come out looking far worse then they did before.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I want to applaud you on yet another thoughtful entry. Secondly, I have to pick my mouth up from off of the floor because I can not believe the image that I see above. Is that real? Certainly, this is another media casualty. In other words, another beautiful young woman who transforms herself to fit the unreasonable expectations of society. RIP to the "Real Heidi."
