A Day without Electricity

Yesterday morning, I woke up to no power. I was shocked there was no power; I didn’t think that the high wind the weather man predicted would be that bad. While getting ready to go to my SAT class, the lack of electricity stopped me from doing my usual routines. I couldn’t watch TV, straighten my hair, or even turn on my light. I thought that the power only went out in my neighborhood, but I was wrong. Apparently, the power went out throughout parts of Manalapan and Freehold. Outside the weather was absolutely destructive. The wind was so strong it shut down the power of street lights and even the mall. It was complete chaos, there was lots of traffic and accidents.

Even though the shortage of power only lasted a day it got me to really think about how our society depends on electricity. Just one day without electricity caused major chaos: traffic, accidents, and many businesses shutting down for the day. As well, many people didn’t know what to do with themselves once their computers and cell phones¬¬ went out of battery. If one day there was no longer power on earth the people of our society will cause complete chaos and would not be able to function.

  1. haha gettint ready for SAT class was a mess. My power was out for the rest of the night causing my family and I getting togther and talking;something in which we don't do that often. It was nice being together, and maybe loosing power wasn't that bad.

  2. I agree! No one realizes how heavily our lives are impacted by technology. I also agree that society would erupt with chaos because nearly everything people depend on today is run on power. If the entire world lost power there is no doubt in my mind everything and everyone will fall appart. I can only think of myself lucky that I dont NEED most of these material things to get by on a regular basis.
