Glee, Fox’s newest original series, has captivated audiences throughout the country including myself. On last week’s episode, Mercedes, an overweight teen, was forced by her cheerleading coach to lose ten pounds in one week, otherwise she would be cut from the squad. As crazy as it may sound, Mercedes did not want to give up her spot on the team so she ate fewer meals and ended up fainting. After realizing she was sacrificing her health to fit another person’s stereotype of a “perfect cheerleader” she announced that regardless of how she looked she wouldn’t let others bring her down.
The point the episode was trying to make was that nothing should stop a person from following their dreams. I agree that no one should be limited by how they look to accomplish a goal. Even though a person may stereotypically not be at the standard to perform a certain task, they shouldn’t give up. Everyday there are people who defeat the odds, take Oscar Pistorius for example. Oscar, also known as the fastest man on no legs, uses prosthetic legs to race on the track. Despite losing both his legs at young age, Oscar did not let it stop him from continuing his passion for running; even though stereotypically track runners have both legs. No matter what the odds are against a person it should stop them from pursing the goals they want to accomplish.

For people unfamiliar with "Glee" a brief description of the premise for the show might be helpful!!
